TVS motor, finally ready to ‘flame’ the road

Finally, Madras High court has swung their decision in favor of TVS motor. This has ended a two year long battle between bajaj and TVS motor. Earlier in 2007, bajaj filed a law suit against TVS motor for infringing their DTSi techonology in ‘TVS Flame’ model. TVS was forced to evacuate ‘flame’ from every dealer of the country and were not allowed to manufacture there bike in any of their units. But later TVS cleared there stance by providing enough proof in favor of there defense. TVS claimed that there model was based on three valve combustion technique. They have taken a license of this technology from AVL GMBH of Austria. However, Bajaj patent claimed a two valve configuration and hence are not infringing on bajaj’s patent.

So finally TVS is all set to launch their product in the maket.

‘patents.com’ database enable us to search in US – Granted, US – Application, US – Design and EP patents jurisdictions. Keyword, classification, inventor, assignee etc. based search can be performed under ‘Search’ tab. It also facilitates us to frame search queries by using bolean operators, proximity operators, wild-cards, ‘fuzzy searches‘ and ‘boasting a term‘.

Till date, special features like ‘Fuzzy searches’ and ‘boasting a term’ are the most scintillating features I have ever found in any freely available patent database.

This database also contains some exceptional features like:

Inventor/assignee base search: You can either search by name, state/ city or browse through all the names of inventor/assignee.
Search or browse through attorneys.
Information regarding patents which are available for licensing or selling.

Patent search in jurisdictions like US, EP, WO and Abstract of Japan can be searched on database ‘freepatentsonline’. The database is providing advanced features such as word steming, complex queries, work files etc for absolutely free. Moreover, it also provide us to extract all the bibliographic details of patent set in excel file. However, we can only extract details of 250 patent sets at a time.

Sometimes we see mathematical formula or equations in specification of the patent and we find it as a limitation in our patent search. And this free database is providing us to search those equations using special characters.
